First the guys in Alkaline Trio align themselves with the corporate machine known as Zumiez, but that was somewhat forgivable considering the counter culture crowd that flocked to see the Lakai team rip it up at the mall. But this…this is very interesting to say the least.

Is anybody straightedge anymore?

I grew up in Southern California during a time when christian hardcore and straightedge bands were coexisting in an odd world. It was a great time for heavy music and we saw bands like Throwdown come out of obscurity to bring their brand of metallic hardcore to the scene that was blossoming day by day.

But recently, I haven’t seen as much coverage about straightedge bands.

Did everyone turn 21 and just stop being straightedge?

Did people just grow out of heavy music?

What’s this? U2 just revealed via their official website, that they might have a record coming out in October sometime. Just in time to bring their brand of butt rock to the masses. I highly doubt that U2 can come up with anything creative to release this time around.

Wait…I take that back. Maybe the new U2 record will feature some hardcore cover songs. What if The Edge, or whatever his name is, got the new Lamb of God record and was so moved by the metallic riffs that he decided to add breakdowns to the next U2 record!

Everywhere I turn, I see a lot of people trying to push the new Coldplay record on me, or tell me that the new Coldplay record is going to be really good. But I’ve already heard the record, and I saw them play at the Mtv Music Awards, and I’m not impressed this time around. In fact, I haven’t been impressed since Parachutes! Granted, I was a lot younger when that first record hit the sound waves, but these guys and their popularity baffle me greatly.
